Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Children are born ready, able and eager to Learn.  They actively reach out to interact with other people, and in the world around them.  Every child in our setting will engage in opportunities to interact in positive relationships and enabling environments.

The children engage in learning that has been well planned and resourced, children are observed in their learning and these observations are analysed to help the practitioners to decide how best to challenge and extend the child's learning and development.

The areas of Learning and development are all interconnected and will be experienced throughout the theme.

Prime areas of Learning in the Early Years

Personal, social and Emotional Development

Physical Development

Comunication and Language

Specific areas of Learning in the Early Years

Understanding the world

Expressive Arts and Design

Please share a book with your child every night.  The more they hear and respond to reading the wider their vocabulary will grow. We will set a 'sharing of books' challenge at the start of each half term to encourage children to share books at home. We will support children in changing their books on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday, this will give you several days to read the book.

You can always come and see me if you have any questions or concerns.

Love Jesus Love Learning Love Life

God Matters

Prayer, Saints and Feasts- in this unit we will be exploring family relationships within the context of showing love for one another. Children will find out about how Jesus cared for us and how he gave us signs to demonstrate that care and love. We also look at the role of the family in helping us pray through examples of Jesus and his family.

The multi-faith element is Islam.

Big Questions- This is an opportunity for children to explore their faith further and to ask questions which are important to them.

Theme for the Summer term 2- Under and Over the Sea

This half term we will be focusing on finding out about the sea. We will begin with 'Pirates', where the children will have opportunities to share pirate stories and to use their reading and writing skills to become real- life pirates.
We will then move on to exploring the sea and the creatures that we find there. In this part of the topic we will share stories such as The Rainbow Fish and also look at how we can find out about sea creatures through reading books and using technology. We hope to go on a visit to the Aquarium. I will give you more information about this and the costs involved shortly.
In this final half term in Foundation the children will be given challenges each week to complete and these challenges link into HMS Quest.
We will continue with our daily RWInc sessions and also our daily Maths sessions. In Maths we will be focusing on subtraction, money and shape. Please look out for the weekly Foundation Newsletter in your child's book bag so that you know the focus for reading/spelling and also to see what our maths learning each week has been.
