Spring Term 1

The class teaching assistants are Mrs Palmer (all day), Mrs Allen (am only), Mrs Amissale (am only) and Mrs Farrow (pm only)
On Tuesday afternoons the children are taken by Miss Melley and Sports specialists for PE. 


Our learning journey this half term...


This half term we will be focusing on the topic 'Light and Dark.' Each week the children will have a different question to explore and they will be encouraged to think of their own questions to ask of their learning and each others. During this topic we will explore questions such as 'What does a witch need for a spell?' (Linked to the story of Room on the Broom) and 'What do you celebrate?' (Linked to theme of Diwali.)


In maths sessions the children will continue to name and describe shapes and to look at numbers up to 10, focusing on careful counting, finding 1 more and 1 less, addition and subtraction. Each day the children take part in a RWInc session where they learn new sounds and how o read and write words. Writing is modelled throughout the week outside of these sessions and the children will have opportunities to write independently and with an adult, for example, when they write the ingredients for their potion. After whole class sessions the children will continue to use the environment for opportunities to retell stories, write, paint, draw, explore shape and number, create using a variety of different media and materials.


In RE sessions we will cover the topic of 'Sacraments.' The children will have the opportunity to visit our church and take part in a Baptism. We will also explore the themes of 'Advent' and 'Christmas,' where we will look at the joy leading up to Christmas and then the special story about Jesus' birth.


Each week your child will bring home a Foundation Newsletter so that you can find out what we have been focusing on and what the plan for learning will be the following week. Every 6 weeks or so you will be invited into school to share your child's learning journey and to talk about their next steps.
