Sports - Sainsbury's Games
Welcome to our Sports Pages. In this area we will inform you of clubs available for your child to attend, the events that we are involved in and how we have performed in them.
In 2015-16 we qualified for the Silver Sainsbury's School Games Award. In 2016-17 we will be going for Gold.
17th January -
What a fantastic performance by our netballers at Marjons. They played five games, winning all five scoring twelve goals and only conceding two. They won the league and have qualified for the finals along with the other five top netballing schools in the city. That is quite an achievement considering that we only have four girls in year 6 !
16th January - Six-a-side football at GOALS proved a tough task for our boys today. We drew the first game but lost all of the others. Thankfully they were still smiling at the end of a day. It seems a bad day on the football pitch is better than a good one in the classroom !
11th January - The first netball competition of the year brought us success. After playing eight games we ended up second. P8 W5 D1 L3. It was good preparation for the big Plymouth competition next week.
16th December - Nine children took part in the first netball practice of the year. We only have seven more school days before our first tournament against other Catholic Schools on Jan 11th.
5th December - The new lunch timetable has increased the number of opportunities for children to take part in football clubs during school time. The 'dip' is our safe football playing area and it is now in use by four different classes each day. All of the Key Stage 2 children can play football every day that they are in school.
21st November - We have signed up for many sporting events coming up including more competitions with our CAST partner schools. For the first time ever we will hold a Catholic Schools Mini Brickfields competition where all of our athletes will get to compete on the track and field before the big event a couple of weeks later.
8th November - Congratulations to our indoor athletes who came home with silver medals from the Catholic Schools Tournament at Notre Dame. Every one of the 12 children won at least one of their races. Apart from being great athletes they were great ambassadors for the school as well.
1st November - lunchtimes this week will be spent practising for the indoor athletics competition next week.
On 20th October 24 children represented the school in the Plymouth Cross Country Championships with hundreds of other children competing. Most came in the top 50 with Lennon doing particularly well getting into the top 10 in his race.
On October 14th we held our Inter-House Cross Country competition.
Individual race winners were: Jehrel, Lacie, Lennon, Natalia, Fraser and Joseph.
Inter - House : 4th St Bernadette's (21.2), 3rd St Paul's (17.9), 2nd St Teresa's ( 17.4)
Winners St Peter's (13.3) Well done the blues.
First Football Match of the Season 27th September
St Joseph's 3 Keyham Barton 2
Two goals from Jehrel in the second half secured a narrow victory against a skilful Keyham side. Brandon in goal kept us in the game aided by a series of defenders including Drew and Cameron making crucial tackles. Thirteen children pulled on the blue shirt in this game and they were all winners.
