Year 2

WELCOME TO CLASS 2

Greetings from your class teacher:
 Mrs Norton
Our fantastic TA is Mrs Illing.

Our learning journey this half term...

This term our learning challenge is "How can we grow our own salad?"

Within this topic the children will be learning about what plants need to grow and be healthy, why earthworms are so important and why we should eat green vegetables and salad to keep ourselves healthy.  We will also be conducting experiments to prove that plants really do need water, light, heat and nutrients ensuring that we know how to carry out a "fair test". We will also be researching the Italian artist Arcimboldo who used fruit and vegetables to create works of art!

In English the children will be learning how to write clear and accurate instructions, moving on to narrative writing using Jack and the Beanstalk (to link with our topic) as the basis for writing our own "portal" story.

During our maths lessons, we will firstly be investigating position, movement and direction including left and right, clockwise and anti-clockwise and quarter, half and three quarter turns.  After that, we will be measuring and estimating and finishing with two weeks of proportional reasoning when we revisit multiplication and division facts including problem-solving using arrays, repeated addition and times tables facts.

In RE, we will be continuing to look at Easter for the first 4 weeks, learning about and reflecting on the empty tomb and the effect it had on the people who discovered that Jesus' body had gone.  We also look at Doubting Thomas and consider his feelings and actions.  This topic ends on Pentecost Sunday and the children then start to learn about both Pentecost itself and to take that further into considering their own Mission as disciples of Jesus.
