WELCOME TO CLASS 2

Our learning journey this half term...
 
This term our learning challenge is "What was it like when the Queen came to the throne in 1953?"
 
This term the children will be learning about Queen Elizabeth II and her coronation in 1953. Children will gain the knowledge to order key events during the Queen's reign and they will find out about the Queen's role in WWII.
 
 
This term, the children will build on their understanding of mathematical calculations. They will consolidate their knowledge of number bonds before learning about to add and subtract from 2 digit numbers. Children will use manipulatives to build their conceptual understanding. Reasoning and problem solving will be used to challenge children and give them an opportunity to apply their mathematical understanding in different contexts.
 
 
In RE, we learning about Prayer, Saints and Feasts. Children will learn also  learn about the Muslim faith as we explore Ramadan. Later in the term, we will learn about the Christmas story.
Class 2 have been busy preparing for the Christmas International market!
Great morning spent with author Tracey Corderoy  and Illustrator Steven Lenton.  Lots of fun and inspiration!

Class 2's trip to Dartmoor Zoo
We found some dinosaur eggs in our classroom! We used scientific words to compare the different eggs and predicted which dinosaur each egg belonged to. 
The day class 2 met Neil Armstrong! We made rockets and watched Neil Armstrong blast his own rocket into space.
Class 2 had a fantastic day at Pennywell Farm meeting Father Christmas.

Homework

 

Children will be given weekly homework which will be set every Monday and due in the following Monday. This will include...

  • weekly spellings via Literacy Planet

  • a handwriting sheet (also the week's spellings)

It is also important that children read every day and practise their individual Minute Maths Challenge. If you have any questions regarding homework, please come and ask.

 

P.E

 

The children will have their P.E lessons every Friday. Please make sure your child has their P.E kit in school throughout the week. Children will be reminded to take their P.E kit home every half term to be washed.

Class 2 enjoyed pressing apples grown at  St. Joseph's in preparation for Harvest festival and the upcoming Apple Festival at Devonport Guildhall
