Year 2

Greetings from your class teacher:
 Ms Lucas
Our fantastic TAs are Ms Nott and Mrs. Faith
Our learning journey this half term...
This term our learning challenge is "Where would you prefer to live? In England or Africa?"
Within this topic, the children will learn about the location and climate of Africa. Children will report the weather at home and compare the weather and climate here with the weather and climate in Kenya. Children will read a variety of folk tales including Lila and the Secret of the Rain and some well-known tinga tales.
The children will have the opportunity to write and tell their own folk tales. They will use exciting language to bring their stories to life! We will continue to learn about word class and sentence types in our SPaG lessons.
This term, the children will revisit fractions. We will then move on to applying our knowledge of number and operations when solving word problems. Children will develop the confidence to use bar models to solve problems. We will also continue to practise our minute maths challenges.
In RE, we begin by reflecting on the Easter story. We will think carefully about symbols related to the Easter story.
Class 2 have been busy preparing for the Christmas International market!
Great morning spent with author Tracey Corderoy  and Illustrator Steven Lenton.  Lots of fun and inspiration!
Please enjoy listening to the children retell part of 'Lila and the Secret of Rain'.
We found some dinosaur eggs in our classroom! We used scientific words to compare the different eggs and predicted which dinosaur each egg belonged to.
The day class 2 met Neil Armstrong! We made rockets and watched Neil Armstrong blast his own rocket into space.
Class 2 had a fantastic day at Pennywell Farm meeting Father Christmas.
"All hail the Queen, all hail the King"

Children will be given weekly homework which will be set every Monday and due in the following Monday. This will include...

  • weekly spellings via Literacy Planet

  • Mathletics

  • Handwriting

It is also important that children read every day and practise their individual Minute Maths Challenge. If you have any questions regarding homework, please come and ask.

The children will have their P.E lessons every Tuesday and Thursday. Please make sure your child has their P.E kit in school on these days in order to participate in the fun, important and compulsory area of school life. Children will be reminded to take their P.E kit home every half term to be washed.
