Year 2

WELCOME TO CLASS 2

Greetings from your class teacher:
 Mrs Norton
Our fantastic TA is Mrs Illing.

Our learning journey this half term...

This term our learning challenge is "How can we be the next sporting superstar?"

Within this topic the children will be learning about the importance of exercise, nutrition and hygiene for humans to stay healthy and the effect of exercise on our bodies.  We will not only be looking at how different fruits are good for us and where they come from in the world but will also be creating William Morris-style prints using fruit and veg.

In English the children will create an information leaflet about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and for the last part of the term we will be learning "The Owl and the Pussycat" by Edward Lear and producing our own version as well as performing it.

During our maths lessons, we will firstly be revisiting telling the time and moving on to fractions and equivalent fractions as well as problem-solving in both of these areas.  Finally we will do some more work on measuring capacity and volume and shapes and symmetry.

In RE, we will be continuing with the theme of Pentecost for 2 more weeks and then move on to three weeks of Other Faiths - Judaism, Sikhism and Hinduism.  We also hope to talk about Buddhism as well and will be noticing similarities and differences between all these other world faiths and Catholicism.
Great morning spent with author Tracey Corderoy  and Illustrator Steven Lenton.  Lots of fun and inspiration!

Homework

Children will be given weekly homework which will be set every Monday and due in the following Monday. This will include...

  • weekly spellings

It is also important that children read every day and practise their individual Minute Maths Challenge. If you have any questions regarding homework, please come and ask.

P.E

The children will have their P.E lessons on a Monday and Friday. Please make sure your child has their P.E kits in school on these days in order to participate in the fun, important and compulsory area of school life.
