Year 2

Greetings from your class teacher:
 Ms Lucas
Our fantastic TAs are Ms Nott and Mrs. Faith
Our learning journey this half term...
This term our learning challenge is "What is our school made of?"
Within this topic, the children will be learning about different types of materials and how to choose the best materials to do a particular job. We will look at why different materials are used to build our school, make our toys and build instruments.
The children will be reading the less famous story of The 3 Wolves and the Big Bad Pig. The children will create their own short stories using lots of description whilst continuing to use capital letters and full stops accurately. There will be a weekly spelling rule for the children to practise and this will be part of their weekly homework. Children will also take part in group guided reading sessions twice a week. Children will practise their reading fluency and comprehension skills.
During our maths lessons, we will be looking at number and place value. The children will learn about the value of a number and practise counting on in 2s, 3s and 5s. The children will use concrete objects, like numicon and cubes to represent a number.
In RE, we will revisit Creation paying particular attention to Noah's Ark. Children will have the opportunity to reflect on the meaning of the story and the importance of looking after God's creation.
Great morning spent with author Tracey Corderoy  and Illustrator Steven Lenton.  Lots of fun and inspiration!

Children will be given weekly homework which will be set every Monday and due in the following Monday. This will include...

  • weekly spellings via Literacy Planet

  • Mathletics

  • Handwriting

It is also important that children read every day and practise their individual Minute Maths Challenge. If you have any questions regarding homework, please come and ask.

The children will have their P.E lessons every Tuesday and every other Thursday. Please make sure your child has their P.E kits in school on these days in order to participate in the fun, important and compulsory area of school life. Children will be reminded to take their P.E kits home every half term to be washed.
