Year 3

Welcome to Class 3
Our learning journey this half term...
This term we are looking at Volcanoes. This topic not only allows us to focus on our understanding of how volcanoes are formed but also it gives us the option to create our own exploding volcanoes. By the end of the term, we are planning to create our own informational presentations about natural disasters!
In Maths this term we are looking at multiplication and division. Over the year, it is important that the children continue to learn and practice their 3, 4 and 8 times tables.
In writing this term we are looking at Myths & Legends. Over the term, the class will have a chance to write their own Myths. This links nicely to our topic because, in Greek Mythology, fantastic creatures were thought to be the reason natural disasters occurred!

This term we are looking at Christmas. This unit looks at the Christmas story from the perspective of the shepherds. Their response invites an exploration of the language they used and also a consideration of the nature of the ministry of Jesus, which was to care for and live among the poor and marginalised.

The symbolism of the nativity scene is examined through the story of the first crib.

  • Mathletics
  • Weekly spellings
  • Literacy planet
Children will also need to practice their times tables as often as they can at home so they can travel the world in our Times Table Travels, as well as practicing their One Minute Maths.
It is also important that children read daily in order to continue developing as confident writers.
If you have any questions about homework, please come and ask!
Due to changes in the timetable, the children will be expected to keep PE kit in school all week.
