Year 5 Home Learning

Welcome to
Class 5
Our class teacher is Miss Hill.
Other adults in class are:
Mrs Stephenson.
During the second part of the Autumn term we will evaluate haiku poetry. Following on from this we will create then entertain our audience through WW2 historical narratives. Our final writing focus will be to inform our readers through diary recounts.
Religious Education
Our opening unit asks the question - What does it mean to be Committed? We will explore marriage which requires dedication and fidelity to each other and service to God.  Following on from this we will look at the two world religions of Islam and Sikhism. Towards the end of the Autumn term our Advent & Christmas unit begins by asking - How and why do we wait hopefully?
During the Autumn term our main focus will be multiplication and division.  This will include reviewing our times tables and methods to answer these questions. Throughout the term the children will be given a weekly opportunity in mixed problem solving and reasoning.
Physical Education
Our PE days are now Tuesday and Wednesday. This term our units are gymnastics and netball.  Please make sure that your child arrives in school in the correct school PE kit to participate in this fun, important and compulsory area of school life.
  • Reading occurs in school with 5 x 15 minutes dedicated to independent reading.  There is an expectation that children will match this time at home.  Reading is tracked daily using the reading records for volume and comprehension success.  A minimum pass mark of 80% quiz scores are expected.
  • Spellings will be issued on a Tuesday via Google Classroom then tested on the following Monday.  Handwriting practice should be completed at home using the published list.  All children will have access to 'Literacy Planet' to practise and must complete ALL of the activities which have been set.
  • Times tables must be practised for 30 minutes in total across the week using Times Table Rockstars.
