Summer term 1

Welcome to year 3!
 
Our Class teacher is Miss Melley.
Other adults in our class are: Mrs Allen, Mr Foster and Mrs Farrow.
Writing - During the first part of the Summer term, we will be immersed in performing, evaluating and composing Kennings poems. Following on from this we will then entertain with myths and legends and inform the reader with non-chronological reports, inspired by our class text this term - Romans on a rampage.
Maths
 
During the Summer term we will continue looking at fractions. We will then tell the time to the nearest minute in 12 hour and 24 hour clock. Finally, we will identify right angles and investiagte the properties of shapes.
Religious Education
 
Our opening unit 'Hinduism'.' We will explore the hindu place of worship the Mandira.  Following on from this we will focus on the liturgical season of 'Pentecost.' We will explore 'what's the use of energy?'. 
Physical Education
 
Our PE days are now Thursday and Friday. Please make sure that your child wear their PE kit to school on these days. The children should also wear their usual school jumper or cardigan on these days. As part of our PE this term we will be learning handball and striking and fielding. 
 
 
Homework
  • Reading occurs in school with 5 x 15 minutes dedicated to independent reading.  There is an expectation that children will match this time at home.  Reading is tracked electronically for volume and comprehension success.  A minimum of 50 pages and a passmark of 80% quiz scores are expected.
  • Spellings will be issued on a Tuesday then tested on the following Monday.  Handwriting practice should be completed at home using the published list. All children will have access to 'Spelling frame' to practise and must complete ALL of the activities which have been set. 
  • Times tables must be practised for 30 minutes in total across the week using Times Table Rockstars.
