Autumn 2

During the second part of the Autumn term we will be writing another chapter of the book Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the Race Against Time. Our final writing focus will look at the non-fiction text Charles Dickens: Scenes from an Extraordinary Life. We will aim to recreate this style of writing with the focus on Isambard Kingdom Brunel who we are learning about this half term.
Religious Education
Our opening unit asks the question - What does it mean to be Committed?  We will explore vocations which require dedication and service to God's call.  Towards the end of the Autumn term our Advent & Christmas unit begins by asking - Should we have expectations?

During the Autumn term our main focus will be the four operations and fractions.  This will include ordering, equivalence, addition, subtraction as well as multiplying and dividing. Throughout the term the children will be given a weekly opportunity in mixed problem solving and reasoning.
Reading - Hearing your child read can be difficult at this age, but as often as possible, ask your child questions about their reading book, challenge them to predict what will happen next and ask them to summarise what they have read so far.   We are aiming for your child to read at home for 15 minutes, 5 times a week. Reading is tracked electronically for volume and comprehension success and discussed with your child each Monday. A minimum of 50 pages and a passmark of 80% quiz scores are expected.
Spellings - these will be issued each Tuesday then tested on the following Monday. Handwriting practice sheets will contain the spelling list and are to be completed and returned for the Monday morning test.  The school uses 'Spelling Frame' which supports the children's learning and this should be completed each week.
Maths - activities will be allocated weekly, using 'IXL.' Building effective routines now to ensure that homework is completed will ease the transition to Secondary school when the expectation is much greater.
Physical Education
Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. Please make sure that your child attends school wearing the correct PE kit in order to participate in this fun, important and compulsory area of school life.
