St Joseph's Catholic Primary School

Music

At St Joseph's, music is implemented on alternate half terms to ensure all pupils receive a rich and balanced musical education while allowing time for a broad curriculum.

During the half terms when music is taught, children take part in carefully planned, progressive lessons that develop their listening, performing, composing, and appraising skills.

Lessons are active and engaging, giving pupils the opportunity to explore different instruments, rhythms, and styles of music from a wide range of cultures and time periods.

Over time, children learn to read simple musical notation, sing with control and expression, and work collaboratively to perform as part of a group.

During the alternate half terms, musical skills are often revisited or applied through other subjects and whole-school events such as assemblies, performances, or themed days. This alternating approach ensures music remains an integral and enjoyable part of school life while fitting seamlessly into our wider curriculum offer.
