Children in the Read Write Inc. Orange Group are developing greater fluency and confidence as they move from early decoding to more expressive and accurate reading. At this stage, they are learning to recognise and use a wider range of sounds, including complex set 2 and 3 sounds, and to read words containing these sounds more swiftly. Pupils read longer storybooks that encourage them to build stamina, fluency, and understanding, while discussing characters, settings, and events to deepen comprehension.

In writing lessons, children practise using their growing phonics knowledge to spell accurately and to compose clear, well-structured sentences. They also begin to use punctuation correctly and experiment with exciting vocabulary to make their writing more interesting. 

By the end of the Orange Group, children are becoming more confident readers and writers, ready to tackle more challenging texts in the next stage of Read Write Inc.
